[Tutorial]Recovering ASUS 1015PEM eeePC System with Embedded Windows 7

Years, yeah you could say it's been years since my last post. I admit it myself. :( I don't know where I'm going or doing. But I just get more busy these time on Senior High School class. So that's why I didn't post anything here that long. Anyway, I'm going to share a little but very useful tutorial for you who are using Asus eeePC.

Step by Step Recovering Asus 1015 PEM eeePC System with embedded windows 7 Starter

Today I got another work with an ASUS eeepc 1015 PEM Clam shell design from my school teacher. The eeePC got virus in the system and can't be recovered anymore, so I suggest him to re-install the fresh Windows. But when I asked him about the the recovery disc/windows 7 Starter disc, he said that there are no any disc in the package when he bought it. He just show me with some applications installer that stored in the D: drive, but that's not even driver or the image of windows 7 starter disc.

Silly me, I asked him to re-check it again at home. But nothing, and then I asked him to call to the seller. and the seller said it's there, inside the netbook..
Huh?!
I get myself to searching for what is inside this netbook package on Google. Some said there are CD, some not.. =="

Then I get myself to Google about video review on unboxing the eeePC ASUS 1015PEM and found out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gXAyhDcoIw.

From that video I found out How to boot into the embedded Operating System installer (by pressing F9 when starting the netbook), actually I'd read about it somewhere before but I forgot. :hammers.

Let's get back to the business:
1.Start your eeePC
2.press F9,
3.Fail! I got myself into windows 7 boot manager.

I tried each Function key on the boot (F) n got F2 to enter the BIOS. By pressing F2 on boot, the Bios logo screen will show up and there are some options came up either, like the F9 the recovery option. Bingo!

So the right steps should be:
1. Start your eeePC
2. press F2, wait few seconds until the BIOS logo shown,
3. then press F9, the screen should be showing "Windows is loading files . . ."
Now it's going load the recovery system/windows 7 starter,
5. choose English n hit the arrow
6. press Recovery
The system will start the process to install fresh windows 7 to you ASUS 1015PEM eeePC, so just follow the next steps shown. It's just like the usual windows 7 installation.

The screenshot will be updated later :)

CAUTION!
It will delete all data in partition C:, but the D: partition itself is safe in my experience. But to be sure, I backuped all files in D: to another media just in case. :D

[Trick]How to Show Original Standard Desktop Icons

Hi all,
very long time since my last post. I'm so sorry.

Anyway, I want to tell you how to show original standard desktop icons, remember it's the original one and NOT only shortcuts. The original that I meant was My Computer, My Documents, My Network Places, and Internet Explorer. Because by default the desktop is lank and only an Original Recycle Bin icon shown, and as what I've saw so many people used the non-original(shortcut) icon for these icons.

Follow these steps to show original non-shortcut desktop icons
(my computer, my documents, my network places, and internet explorer):
1. Right-click on the blank part of your Desktop
2. click "Properties"
3. click "desktop" tab
4. click "customize desktop" button
5. Tick on all icons inside "desktop icons", ex: My Documents, My Computer, My Network Places, and Internet Explorer
6. OK and OK

Note: In some situation, we may can't find Internet Explorer in Desktop Icons.

Q:Why using the original icons for these icons?
A:Because the original icons gives us more options when right-click on them.
example: right-clicking on Original my computer icon, would give us additional options like "manage, map network drive, and disconnect network drive".

Q:Can we use those additional options without using those original desktop icons?
A:Yes.
We can use them too, by right-clicking the same icon from "Modern Start Menu in XP".
But if you are using the classic start menu, the easier way to access it is by using these original standard desktop icons.

You can also find, "System Up Time" to check how long your computer turned ON and UP that time. ^.^

[Trick]How to Move Original My Documents Default Location

Hello all,

I just recovered from another ill time, it's Rubella Virus.

Today, I want to share you How to Move the original My Documents Default Location, which usually located inside the "system partition/documents and settings". We will can move the My Documents folder to another folder or partition.

I think it will be useful. Example: For those(including ME) who used "Deep Freeze" program and freezed their System partition and leave their second partition unfreezed to keep their System partition free of virus.

Follow these steps:
(If followed my previous tips on =>"[HOW TO]Display Standard Desktop Icons, NOT shortcuts ")
1. Right-click on 'My Documents' folder on desktop
(If you didn't)
1. Click on 'Start' menu in taskbar.
2. Right-click on 'My Documents' folder
3. Click on 'Properties'
4. Click 'Move' button inside 'target folder location'
5. Browse to your desired New Location for the Default My Documents location
6. Then make a new folder named 'My Documents'
7. Click OK
8. Click OK again
9. 'Move Documents' dialog will pop up, click YES!
10. DONE, your 'My Documents' moved to the New Location ^.^

IMPORTANT NOTE: Use at you own risk.
Some games or programs do save their profile or datas inside your 'My Documents' folder. Some of them will detect if My Documents moved to the new location, but some MAYBE not which will make the games/programs can't find their profile or data.

Better use this Tricks on NEW user or NEW Fresh Windows installation, which haven't many programs yet. So if the program save datas to 'My Documents', it will automatically save the data to your 'MOVED My Documents' location.

sorry for my delayed post here, today I'm going to introduce the last features I added at my Browser. Opera Link.

Is Opera Link safe?

How to synchronize your Opera??
Before we start, you will need:
1. an Opera Account, SIMPLE REGISTER at ===>>> http://my.opera.com/community/signup/
2. Newer Opera version, Opera 9.20 doesn't support 'Opera Link'

Now follow these steps:
1. Open ur Opera Browser
2. go to 'File', and click 'Synchronize Opera'
3. Type in your username and password, and press 'Login'
4. Opera will connect and sync the data to your account.
5. Sync Status can be seen at the bottom of browser.

But on the way using this feature, I found 2 little problems:
1. It's doesn't supported on the older Opera,
~~~~~My Notebook was using Opera 9.20, and it didn't support Opera Link,
just upgrade to current newest version Opera 9.64.

2. My ISP has some connection problem with 'Opera Link' server
~~~~~I'm using 2 ISP with HSDPA modem & wireless broadband. On the wireless broadband ISP, I can't Sync anything on the first time.
However after I try proxy for the First sync, the next sync no need proxy anymore^.^
So Just try proxy ur HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP connection if you can't sync it!
And also use a good Proxy IP, no need to be so anonymous.

How to make Eastern Language Character Readable on Win XP

Hello all,
I have some of Chinese songs with Eastern(Chinese, Japanese, and Korean) Language Character in the filenames.. I'd installed the Chinese character support oon my notebook, but not my PC.. And I need to MANUALLY INSTALL this feature.. All you need is:
1.The Windows XP Installation CD, we just need the files in the CD.
2.230MB of Disk Space on System HDD, for Eastern Language Files

Chinese(Simplified):

이것은 구글과 번역된 한국어를 입력할 수있습니다.

If u can see the Eastern Chararters above, that's mean your computer is installed with Eastern Language Character Support, if not you might need to Read a little more through this post.

To Install Eastern Chararter Support, follow these steps:
1. Open Control Panel
2. ~In Category View go to:
"Date,Time,Language,&Regional Options" ==> "Regional & Language Option"
~In Normal View open "Regional & Language Option".
3. Click on "Languages" tab
4. Check "Install files for East Asian Languages"!!
5. Press OK on Pop-ip dialog box.
6. Click OK/Apply
7. Computer will now prompt you to insert the Windows XP Installation Disk
OR
Point to a specified files..
8. After Finished copying files, Restart your computer..
9. And Reopen this post..
10. There you go, the Eastern Languages Character are now Readable in your Windows XP.

[HOW TO]Display Standard Desktop Icons, NOT shortcuts

Hello all,
I didn't realized that there are no any post in April..

Ok then, this's maye an old trick, but might useful..
Usually on older windows version than XP, there are Standard Desktop Icons, like My Computer, My Documents, My Network Places, and Internet Explorer WHICH AREN'T SHORTCUTS..
But in XP those Icons were moved into Start Menu. And some people only put alternatives on desktop with Shortcuts to those services, because don't know how to display non-shortcut my computer icon on desktop..

And shortcuts don't give as much function as non-shortcuts, shortcuts will only lead you there, but there are no real option for those.

Follow These Steps:
1. Right-Click on desktop, select "properties",
2. Select "destop" tab,
3. Click "Customize Desktop",
4. Check all option in Desktop Icons (My Computer, Docs, Network Places, IE)
5. "OK" to all.

Tadaa, NON-SHOTCUT My Computer, My Documents, My Network Places, Internet Explorer icons displated on desktop.. U will realized the different between shortcut and non-shortcut icon by Right-Clicking on those different types icon..

Changing Associated Programs with Certain Filetype

Hello all,

Back to my Experiences, starting from . . . . .
Most of Program or Application that we Installed into our computer, added new filetype or associating with certain filetype which will added filetypes compability in our system.

For example,
example 1: when you install RealPlayer, in default installation it'll automatically associate itself with 3GP, RM, and etc filetypes and when we open 3GP or RM files it'll automatically opened with RealPlayer.
example 2: when you install ACDSee, it'll automatically associate itself with JPG,BMP, and other pic filetype. And when we open JPG/BMP/etc pics file it'll automatically opened with ACDSee.

But in some case, we don't like it opened with certain program.
We can change it by managing/changing the associated program..

There are 2 ways to change it..
1st steps:
1. Right-click on the file with the filetype that you want to change the associated program.
2. Open with -> Choose program
3. Choose the program that you want to make as default viewer
and checklist 'always use selected program to open this kide of file'
4. OK

2nd steps:
1. open explorer or my computer
2. select tools -> folder options
3. click on 'file types' tab
4. find the filetype that you want to change
(tips: type 'x' will point you to filetype with 'x' as the first letter)
5. click 'change' and select the program you want as default program for that filetype
(tips: you can also click 'restore' to roll back to the prev. default program)

How to Service and Fully Control your Epson Stylus Printer?

OK, this one gonna be very useful for Epson Stylus Printer Users including me.

Do you ever get warning from Epson Status Agent about "Your printer are at the end of Service"? Or do you oftenly do "Clean Heads"? The Power Led and Red Led blinking?
It's not a big problems, mostly the printer is just have the "waste ink pad" full.

What is waste ink pad?
Waste ink pad is the place where ink that used for "clean head" are stored temporarily, and needs to cleaned/drained once it gets full. To clean/drain it, we need an expert or who understand about printer mechanism. When you call the expert, also tell him/her to make a pipe from the "waste ink pad" to a bottle at outside of the printer, so next time when the warning(waste ink counter gets maximum) come out again. We can solve it ourself with this freeware.

This is SSC Service Utility, it has ability to make a Factory Command for Epson Stylus Printers.. The warning I said is when "waste ink counter gets to maximum", waste ink counter cen be reset with this freeware. The Waste ink bottle that we put outside printer can be cleaned manually by hand. So we just need one time service from the expert for this warning. ^.^

How to reset the waste ink pad counter?
1. Go to www.SSCLG.com , download and install the freeware
2. Turn on your Epson Stylus Printer and start the freeware.
3. Click on "configuration" tab, select your installed printers and the models in the drop-down list.
4. Click on "Ink monitor" tab and click refresh, your ink level should be displayed.
5. Close the SSC Service Utility, and the icon should displayed in the taskbar.
6. Right-Click on the icon -> Protection Counter -> Reset Protection Counter
7. Then Right-click again on the icon -> Extra -> Soft Reset
8. Done ^,^

There are still many features in this freeware, you can try it by yourself later.

Warning!! making a pipe connected to the waste ink pad could lead to Losing Your Printer Warranty
Notes :
1.Use the cables you got when purchasing the printer. If it's Parallel Cable use it, dont use converter when using this freeware. Otherwise the freeware cannot communicate with the printer
2.You can also use this freeware as replacement of Epson Status Agent.

Hello all, Today is Christmas, but I'm not going anywhere. So I'm going to give a tips here.

In Indonesia, where I used to live now. Most of virus come from Autorun Flashdrive / Flashdisk / Pendrive. And mostly spread from infected college computers.

I did tell you tips about : HOW TO prevent VIRUS to AUTORUN from flashdrive by Disabling Autoplay. But it's still autorun when we double-click the drive.

So we need a better trick to patch that weakness. We are going to need Ninja Pendisk Freeware. Which will AUTOMATICALLY delete Autorun Virus from Flashdrive/pendrive/Flashdisk.

"Ninja is the freeware zero-configuration program designed for guarding computers against viruses transmitted by USB pendisks.

To keep things simple, ninja is fully portable, self-contained and requires no installation.
Besides removing known virulent files, this tool will also immunize your pendisk and create a folder called autorun.inf with special protection permissions to protect your pendisk from being infected again when plugged on contaminated computers."

Follow these steps:
1.Go to NunoBrito.eu/ninja to Download Ninja Pendisk or click here to download!
2.Run it once downloaded, keep ur internet connection online.
Ninja will try to download configuration file which will automatically updated when connected to internet.
3.You will see a file named "ninja.txt" comes up, that's an update and setting of Ninja Pendisk. Change the setting if you want ^^.
4.Right-click on Ninja in taskbar, and activate disable autoplay.
5.Plug in your Flashdrive, a dialog pop-up displaying the processes of Virus Deletion and Immunize your Flash Drive.

FYI : It support XP & Vista; This tricks gonna prevent most common virus using autorun, but don't let your guard down in Internet and other things.

Blocking Apps with GPedit.msc

Hello all,

I juz passed my 1st semester tests, that's why I didn't blog anything back then. And also because of my ISP are still having problem with International connection, so I can't browse freeely.

Now, after a long time I want to tell you how to make "a list of allowed only programs" or "a list of disabled programs". It's useful if you don't user/s to access applications which aren't related to their works in office. ^^

Follow these steps:
1. Go to Start -> Run -> type "gpedit.msc" w/o quotes.
2. browse to "User Configuration" -> "Administrative Templates" -> "System"
3. Find and double clicks "Run Only allowed Windows Applications"(if you want to make a list of all apps that you allow to access)
or "Don't run specified Windows Applications" (if you want to make a list of apps that you don't allow to be accessed)
4. Choose "enable" option, and click on "Show..." option.
5. And add the application process names in the list. For example : winword.exe ; notepad.exe ; wmplayer.exe ; winamp.exe.

FYI: You can't disable process like Task Manager which started by "System" account. You can disable it with other policies.

How to Login as 'SYSTEM' in XP

Hello all,

Again Long Time No Post.. This time I wanna tells you How to login as 'SYSTEM' in Windows XP. This account type is the highest level/position in Win XP, higher than the admin. As I heard, all NTFS permission

Follow these instructions:
1. Open CMD (Start->Run->type'cmd')
2. type: "at 2:32PM /interactive cmd" w/o quotes
Replace 2:32PM with ur computer time & add 1min
3. Wait a minute, and new cmd windows pop up as you scheduled before. But it's not an usual cmd.
4. move to Windows directory in cmd, using "cd.." command w/o quotes.
5. Open Task Manager(ctrl+alt+del), go to processes
6. Select 'explorer.exe' and press 'end process' and 'yes'
7. Now back to the special CMD, type: "start explorer.exe" w/o quotes
8. Wait for a few minutes, and now your user level is 'SYSTEM'

Many Restrictions is gone in this mode. So Be Carefull, especially if you don't really understand what are you gonna do/set in this mode. Because computer will not restrict anything you do. Your setting in this mode can lead to computer malfunction, if you are not careful.

FYI: this mode only remain until you restart ur computer or logout that user. You need to follow the instruction above again to login as 'system' again. :D

And until I posted this tips, I still don't know what is the extra features when we are in 'system' mode. But ONE thing I know, 'SYSTEM' user is at the TOP rank of user account types.

Access Friendster Private Photos w/o Request any Permission! Part.2

According to my last post, I did said if this hack can't be used to friendster user that using custom url. But I did thinked about how to find the UID. There is a new way to find out the 8 digits of Friendster UID number.

To find the UID number follow these way, it's similar with the last method:
1.Open the target friendster profile. Maybe the target is using custom url like "www.friendster.com/abdel", so no UID numbers?? WAIT there is..
2.click on the default pictures, it will lead u to the picture album, and there is UID numbers!it should be looked like -->3.Now just open http://cinta.shell.la/fs/. and u should know what to do, if don't read the previous post.

FYI: there is new function in that service, thumbnail mode, which will give u view of all photos in thumbnail. So it will load faster.

Access Friendster Private Photos w/o Request any Permission!

Do you ever asking?
How to Open Friendster(FS) Private Photos without Requesting permission?
or even without logging in to Friendster accounts?

I just found a website that provides some hack or service to steal Friendster(FS) Private Photos.
You don't need to login to any FS account to open the target private photos.
All you just need is 8 digits of FS UID numbers!!
To Steal the Photos, follow these way ^^:
1. Find the UID number of target FS accounts, which located
ONLY COPY THE 8 digits of UID numbers, DON'T copy "http://www.friendster.com/"!!
2. Open http://cinta.shell.la/fs/.
3. Paste the UID number to the box, and click "I Love Sheila"!
4. And all Friendster albums of that user will be displayed, just choose the album with lock pict.
5. Then the pictures will come to your screen.

EDIT(Sorry I forgot to wrote this):
But there is one weakness of this hack. It's can't be used for Friendster account that using custom url, like mine:"friendster.com/mickeel" so if it's not numbers we still can't use this hack. Maybe u can after u found a way to check his/her UID numbers. ^^

With this hack you can also view pictures of Friendster accounts that don't give you permission to open the album if you aren't his/her friends.

IMO: This hack or service would not useable for long time, because soon Friendster will found at fix the bug. So don't waste your time and use it while it can. peace ^^

Change File Attributes

I come with new experience today, I will give how to make Super Hidden files to be unhidden.

According to the previous post Viewing Super Hidden Files.
Many virus especially from Indonesia, are hiding our files with Super Hidden attribute activated(System files).

How to change the attribute. If previous post is just viewing them, this time will unhide them so can be viewed at other computer without any setting.

For example, we have a file which is super hidden. How to see if a file is super hidden, see the properties of the file and see if hidden option cannot be changed.

There is 2 ways, that is hard way and easy way.
Maybe you will choose the easy way. But I will give the hard way too.

The Hard Way

In hard way, we just need a command prompt. I am using windows xp, but as I know it also can be used at win 95/98 and understanding the basic of CMD command
You can learn basic of CMD from PcStats - Beginners Guides: Windows XP Command Prompt.

Follow these steps:
1. Open command prompt from
"Start-> All program -> Accesories -> Command Prompt"
or
"Start -> Run -> type 'cmd' -> OK".
2. Go to the folder where your data that you want to change the attribute.
3. Type "attrib" to check the file that super hidden ~EDIT:to Check files attributes~.
Type "dir /x" to view your special filenames at CMD, so CMD can understand & find it.
4. Type "attrib [+attibutes -attributes] [filename]"
Filename: is not the long filename but the one that viewed at "dir /x" command and not viewed at "dir" command.
~~EDIT~~FYI: Modern Windows/CMD will also understand the real filenames in command~~

Example: If you have a file named "Games Cheats.txt" that is super hidden. Then you must command "dir /x", it will say "Gamesc~1.txt". Then if you want to change the attribute to unhide it type "attrib -s -h Gamesc~1.txt". Then check it again with Win Explorer or CMD with "Attrib", it should no "S" and "H" attributes.

Description for attributes at the left mean:
H Hidden
S System
R Read-only
A Archive

You can also use "attrib *.exe" to process only files with ".exe" filetype.
Asterisk or usually called wild card "*" is used to manipulate a command to process/effect all variable in the place we place it.

The Easy Way

The easy way is using free program and you should will not having any problem like at Hard Way, because it is not using a command but clicks!

Follow these steps:
1. Download Free Attribute Changer 5.30 from http://www.petges.com/ at the Download Page:
http://webplaza.pt.lu/~rpetges/download/download.html. It's just 574KB
2. Install it.
3. You may be don't know how to start it. You must Right-click at files/folders, "Change Attributes..."
4. If you want to unhide it from super hidden unselect "Hidden" and "System" options, and if you want to make it super hidden just select those!
5. OK

Easy isn't, this is a FREEWARE that I found. It also can change the time stamp.
